Welcome to Dr Vechi’s website!

“In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order.”

    (C. G. Jung)

Over 25 years as a clinical psychologist, I have developed a solid academic & clinical career in both public health services and private practice and have published books and peer-reviewed papers in Psychology.

From 2002 until 2015, in addition to my clinical activity, I also worked as a lecturer at Bachelor of Psychology programs and other health faculties including Nursing, Physiotherapy and Medical School.

Since 2015, as a consultant clinical psychologist at Regional Midland Forensic Psychiatric Services, Waikato Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand and in private practice, I have been supporting people to better cope & overcome their difficulties, fulfil their potential & vocation as well as develop a more meaningful life.

I am experienced in delivering psychological services for adults with mood & anxiety issues, trauma, loss/grief & bereavement, life transition problems, poor emotion regulation, interpersonal issues, adjustment difficulties, personality disorders, psychosis, autism and family & couple relationship-related challenges.

In terms of treatment, I was originally trained in the insight-oriented Jungian psychodynamic model, which has been applied within an integrative approach that is also informed by other evidence-based interventions, such as EMDR, DBT, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and CBT.

The psychological assessment I offer to my clients – during the initial sessions and in preparation for treatment – is comprehensive and grounded in a multimethod approach which includes interview and might entail psychometric testing, namely  self-report questionnaires, cognitive and projective testing, such as the Rorschach Inkblot test (R-PAS system).

Collaborative practice with clients, transparency and commitment are among my core values as a psychologist.

I am registered as a clinical psychologist in New Zealand and Australia, being a full member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists (NCCP), College of Clinical Psychology of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA).

I accept private and ACC referrals and, for further information on my clinical and supervision services, please visit the other sections of this website.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

    Warm regards,

    Luis Gustavo Vechi, PhD
